Front-end Testing
PLC Corporate Website
Introduction
A multinational PLC which LightMedia have worked extensively with in the past asked us to conduct a testing programme on their new corporate site, which had recently been developed for them by a third-party.
The site included content for investors such as financial reports and corporate governance information, resources for the media such as news and contact information, and careers information for potential employees.
Having not been refreshed for some time, this was also the client's first responsive and tablet/mobile-friendly site.
The Project
The scope of the project was to examine key parts of the site (a representative sample of its features) against criteria including performance generally and on touchscreen devices, graceful degradation in older browsers and functionality with cookies disabled.
The comprehensive browser list included Internet Explorer 7+, the latest several versions of all major desktop browsers, Apple browsers/devices (Safari/Chrome/Firefox on MacBook and Mac Pro, and iOS Safari on iPhone and iPad), stock browsers and Chrome on multiple versions and form-factors of Android, and both older and recent Windows Phone devices.
For each element of the site we systematically compiled a report describing success, issues without significant impact and issues with an impact for each requirement and browser / device combination.
For example, we identified CSS issues in older versions of Internet Explorer and on mobiles with smaller screens which resulted in broken page layouts.
Outcomes
The outcome was that the client was able to report issues to and request changes from their developers, to achieve a site that completely matched their requirements.
